Defenders of the Flag

A tribute to the military veterans and history of Hudson

posted: August 1, 2007

Defenders of the Flag is a tribute to the military veterans and history of Hudson, Quebec. It covers four centuries of warfare, the 18th, 19th 20th and 21st centuries. It spans about 265 years, roughly 1740-2005.

Rod Hodgson is not a veteran himself but a life long resident of Hudson and a member of the Hudson Branch #115 of the Royal Canadian Legion. He is a graduate of the University of Guelph with a BA ’78 in Urban Geography and a past President of the Hudson Historical Society. He currently lives and works in Hudson with his wife Linda Karam. Numerous members of his family did serve and are currently serving in Canada’s armed forces. An interesting section of the book is the list of those veterans who did serve in each of the armed conflicts that are covered in this 310 page book. Rod feels that he has included about 95% of Hudson’s veterans in this book. Conflicts such as the Boer War, Relief of Khartoum, World Wars I & II, The Iraq War, The Fenian Raids are just some of the conflicts that are covered in detail. The book is laced with scores of interesting photos of the veterans themselves and or their ships, tanks, aircraft and horses.

Defenders of the Flag is available through Rod at rhodgson@videotron.ca for $30.00 plus shipping and handling.
